Comments can be found under every nonogram, which is in Sent by Users. Comments are meant as a social feature to discuss nonograms or to suggest a correction/translation of a nonogram.

Comments on a nonogram

Comment section of a nonogram.

Recent comments[]

Recent comments can be accessed by tapping Recent comments icon (comment icon) when in Sent by Users. When there are comments, which the player hasn't seen yet, Recent comments icon 2 (comment icon with a dot) will show. This only refreshes every hour, but can be manually refreshed by tapping the Refresh icon (refresh icon). Recent comments show 150 most recent comments of all nonograms from Sent by Users. If the player hasn't seen (or tapped the comments icon) the most recents comment(s), a thin black line will mark the top of the last seen comment. The player can jump to the last read comment by tapping the Comments - unread comments (down arrow with a line under). Pale brown boxes mark nonograms and white boxes mark comments. The player can go the nonogram's comments by tapping the Comments - comment (comment icon) in the pale brown box. The player can go to that nonogram by tapping the Comments - Play (play icon) in the pale brown box. Only images of nonograms, which the player has downloaded, will be shown - otherwise it'll be empty. Also note that names of puzzles show only if "Show puzzle names" is enabled in List view.

Recent comments line

Recent comments. A thin black line can be seen under the first comment. "Show puzzle names" is disabled.

Comment's menu[]

Comments menu can be accessed by tapping the Comments - 3 vertical dots (3 vertical dots icon) in the top right corner when in Recent comments. What each field/button does:

  • Search field - finds search term(s) in all comments (which can also be player names). Tap the Comments - search to initiate the search.
  • Author field - finds comments from the author/player in all comments. Tap the Comments - search to initiate the search.
  • All/device language+English/device language options - show all comments or only comments written in device language and in English or only comments written in device language.
  • Tavern checkbox - if enabled, also shows Tavern comments. Disabled by default.
  • Recent comments: Player_name button - shows comments, which:
    • the player has made,
    • the player was tagged in or
    • were posted under their nonogram(s).
  • ucdevs (news, questions) button - takes the player to comment section of "Pigeon (голубь)" puzzle. Comments here are meant for questions about the app and not for promoting nonograms.
  • Wiki (Unofficial) - link to this wiki main page.

Comments[]

Every comment has a 1024 Unicode character limit (letters, emojis, white-spaces, etc.).

  • Emojis - Some emojis may render differently on different devices or may not render at all (a crossed vertical rectangle renders instead), which may get the wrong message across. When in doubt, avoid them. If the player still wants to see emojis of a certain comment, they can paste them in a browser (e.g. search engine and tap Enter) or tap the Comments - translate, which will paste them in the Google's translator.
  • Tagging - The player can tag another by typing "@player_name" or by tapping on their name or avatar and selecting "@player_name". After typing "@player_name", a space, new line or any special character (".", "=", "!", etc.) must follow it right after. The player name is not case sensitive ("@John" = "@joHn"). Tagging a player will show the comment in their feed ("Recent comments: Player_name"). The player's name will appear bold and dark blue to them (only to them).
  • Replying - The player can reply to comments by tapping on the Comments - reply reply button. The reply will be shown on top of the input text before posting. By tapping on the reply of a comment, the comment, which this comment replied to will be displayed below this comment (and highlighted in green for a short time). Replying also tags the other player.
  • Linking nonograms - The player can comment links to nonograms. First a link has to be copied by tapping the Copy link icon (copy link icon) in the nonogram's menu (3 vertical dots on the right of listed nonograms), which will copy the link to the player's clipboard. Then the link can be pasted in a comment. These links will appear light blue, when the comment is posted. When these links are tapped, the player is taken to the linked nonogram. If the player has already solved the linked nonogram, the Comments - eye icon (eye icon) will show beside the nonogram. When the eye icon is tapped, an image of the nonogram is shown. Note: outside links (e.g. https://nonograms-katana...) are displayed in the same shade of blue, but are in a different format.
  • Requesting a title change - The player can request a title change only for their own nonograms. This is usually done to make a series of old nonograms (see Series > Renaming nonograms).
  • Suggesting a title change - The player can suggest a title/translation or category of a nonogram change by commenting under the nonogram. The player can tag ucdevs or ucmod (moderator), but it is not necessary, because they read all comments. Examples:
    • "English title: ..."
    • "Translated title: ..."
    • "Category: ..."
  • Suggesting a title change is recommended:
    • When the title is obviously grammatically incorrect or in a wrong category.
    • When no English title/translation is posted. Try to stay as close to the original title as possible.
    • When in doubt, ask the author for an explanation. Let them have a word in title change.
  • Check mark - A check mark can be seen in some comments. This check mark means that the moderator has read the player's comment and changed the title or category of the nonogram. The check marks can be seen in different colors and/or shapes, because of the unicode problem mentioned before. Unicode of the heavy check mark is U+2714.
  • Editing and deleting - The player can edit or delete their own comments by tapping Comments - Edit to edit and Comments - delete to delete their own comment. Players can only edit or delete their own comments. If a player edits their comment, a second timestamp will appear under the first. Any additional edits will refresh the second timestamp. Timestamps show local time for every player. Edited comments will not be shown in chronological order of the date they were last edited, but rather of the date they were created. When deleting a comment a confirmation prompt will display: "Delete Comment?", with "Cancel" and "OK" options.
  • Translating comments - Every comment can be translated by tapping the Comments - translate. This takes the player to Google translate with the comment in the "Detect language" translating it to the language chosen in Settings. Tip: Having the Google translate app installed will make the translation faster. Press the back button twice to get back to the Nonograms Katana app.
  • Player's language - Player's language can be seen to the right of the timestamp. This may not be their first language or the country they were born in, but the language of their sistem/phone.
  • Clickable avatars - By tapping on the name or avatar of a player and then again on the avatar, the nonogram in the avatar will be searched and found.
  • "More" button - when scrolling down and the 150 comments limit has been reached, a "More" button will appear. When tapped, another 150 comments will be loaded.
  • Deleted comments - comments can get deleted by UCdevs or moderator (UCmod). Comments might get deleted if they are offensive or inappropriate. Deleted comments do not leave "traces" - it's like they were never there. Deleted nonograms on the other hand still leave "traces" in the form of comments under them (see image below). Comments can also get deleted, if the author asks the moderators.

Tavern[]

Tavern functions very similar to comments under a single nonogram and is mostly used for sharing advice about the Adventurers Guild, but other topics are also welcomed. The difference between Comments and Tavern is that it's visually a little different. By tapping on the 3 vertical dots the player can search through the Tavern chat, which functions similar to how it functions in Comments, but it only searches through Tavern as opposed to all nonograms. A thin brown line is displayed on top of the comment, which the player has already seen (can be hard to see because of the contrast).

Trivia[]

  • There is also a nonogram called Tavern "Green potion".
    • The nonograms was firstly named only Tavern, but after a couple of days and a lot of "Where can I find the green potions?" questions later, it was renamed.
    • "Green potion" refers to Reagent, which is needed to build Airship. Reagent can be found in dungeon 3A and deeper.
    • "Green potion" might also refer to Gorki list[1] (a bitter herbal liqueur); this was hinted at by developers.
    • "Green potion" would then be the name of the tavern (usually, taverns have names).
