Mechanical spider is an item. It is mostly acquired for buying it in Bourse. It is mostly used for helping hero during dungeon exploration. Note that this page contains only acquisitions and uses for Mechanical spider. For example, for crafting a certain item, additional items might be needed.

Uses

Mechanical spider can be used for:

Throwing[]

The throw distance of weapons is 3 tiles from the hero, but can be increased by 1 tile with each level of Throwing to a maximum of 6 tiles. Throw range is not fully a square, one tile on every diagonal is "cut off". The hero can usually not throw through walls (depends on the position of the hero). Weapons can not be thrown on protected enemies (Tactics), non-interactable or objects, which are not highlighted in orange. Throwing costs 4 Action points and 1 Energy. Weapons can only be thrown while in combat.

Tip: If the player decides to not throw the selected weapon, they can deselect it.

Throwing a weapon:

  1. Enter combat.
  2. Select a weapon in hero's inventory. The tiles in range will be highlighted in orange.
  3. Select a tile highlighted in orange.

Combat mechanics[]

Mechanical spider (later spider) can be thrown near hero and attacks the nearest enemy. Enemies will prioritize attacking the spider instead of the hero. The parameters of the spider depend on the parameters of the hero. It can only be used in combat.

  • Spider combat stats:
    • Dungeon - Health Hero's max Health * 0.75 rounded down (minimum: 10)
    • Dungeon - Damage Hero's Damage (minimum: 8)
    • Dungeon - Defense Hero's Defense * 0.75 rounded down (minimum: 2)
    • Dungeon - Action points 6
      • These are based on Hero's stats with all current equipment (Sword, Armor, Shield, Ring), Craftifacts (Helmet) and skills (Martial arts, Hardening), but without buffs (i.e. Potion "Berserker rage", Poke, Smashing blow, etc.).
      • For example: a lvl. 1 Hero has 20 Health, 5 Damage and 2 Defense. The Mechanical spider will have 15 Health, 8 Damage (the minimum, as it's greater than the Hero's 5 Damage) and 2 Defense (again, the minimum, as it's greater than 1 = (Hero's 2*0.75 = 1.5 rounded down).
      • Another example: a lvl. 6 Hero with lvl. 1 equipment (Sword, Armor, Shield, Ring) has 25 Health, 9 Damage and 5 Defense. The Mechanical spider will have 18 Health, 9 Damage and 3 Defense.
      • The Mechanical spider's current Health points won't be automatically updated immediately after the Hero levels up (it will not gain 1 Health point even if the Hero levelling up means the spider gets its max Health increased).
  • Requires hero lvl. 1 to be able to be taken into the dungeon.
  • Costs 4 Action points and 1 Energy point to throw.
  • Follows the same rules as enemies for Critical strikes:
    • 5% chance (not affected by Dagger craftifact).
    • +50% delivered damage when Critical strike happens.
  • The hero can swap places with the spider if standing next to it, by tapping the tile where the spider is. This costs 5 Action points (for the hero and the spider).
    • This comes in handy, for instance, when the spider is trapped between the hero and an enemy with Tactics and the hero can't reach the enemy, nor has the "Tactical gaze" ability.
  • If an enemy has Tactics, the spider will not attack them and won't even move. But if the spider is stuck between an enemy with Tactics and a hero, it will run away/move out of the way (Sneak behind the hero).
  • The spider returns at the end of combat (at the end of spider's combat).
  • The spider will not heal at the end of combat, but will heal at the end of dungeon (if it's not fully destroyed).
  • The spider has Sneak (it will sneak beside enemies if direct way is blocked by the hero).
  • If spider is thrown near an enemy, the spider will sometimes attack the same turn (it appears to be random).
  • If a crate, vase or barrel is in the path of the spider and an enemy, the spider will break it (loot inside that object will be lost).
  • If the hero gets knocked unconscious while the spider is deployed, the player loses the spider.
  • If an enemy is one tile away from the hero, throw the spider 2 tiles away from the enemy. If it's enemy's turn, they will attack the hero (not the spider). If it's spider's turn, it will still do 2 attacks.
  • Spider's health is indicated, either while deployed or in hero's inventory, via the same icon as enemies' health - a circle divided in 4 sectors (8 if hero has "Trained eye" ability), with as many sectors showing depending on how many health points the spider has remaining):
    • Number of sectors showing = 1 + ROUNDDOWN( 4 * (currentHealth -1) / maxHealth )
    • Replace the "4" with "8" in the previous formula if hero has "Trained eye".
    • If the result is 4 sectors (8 with Trained eye), then no icon is shown, meaning full health (or close to it).
  • With the Explosive mechanical spider technology (see Workshop > Technologies), the spider explodes upon death, which does similar damage than Greek grenade in the same range (3x3). The explosion is not harmful to a hero. Learning this technology while a hero is in dungeon, will make the Mechanical spider explosive.
  • The spider will engage in combat if an enemy is 7 tiles away from the spider or the hero. While the spider is in combat, the hero will also be in combat.
    • It can happen that hero is 8 tiles away from an enemy, but the spider is 7 tiles away from the enemy. The spider will then move towards that enemy. To avoid that, move the hero a few tiles further back before throwing the spider.
  • The Mechanical spider can also get webbed by enemies with Spiderweb ability.

Strategy[]

  • Spiders are best used for single enemies.
  • Try to keep the spider alive.
  • An enemy will attack the spider if it's closer than the hero, or if it has less health than the hero if at the same distance. It will choose randomly if both at same distance and same health.
    • Always throw the spider one tile farther from an enemy than your hero is (or same distance if your hero's health is less than your spider's), to a max of two tiles away. If the enemy attacks first, it will attack the hero and not the spider, and the spider will still have 2 attacks.
  • Don't throw the spider near enemies with Tactics.
  • Note: With Equipment preparation you can take more than 1 spider into the dungeon, but only one spider can be deployed at any time.
    • If hero has more than one spider in the inventory, the same spider will always be deployed until destroyed or hero exits the dungeon (i.e. player cannot choose which of the spiders to deploy, in case one has more health than others).
