This feature allows the player to make their own nonograms. Nonograms are limited to 80x80 and 12 colors. Nonograms which only have trivial lines (trivial solution) or have multiple solutions (the bot will check that) can't be submitted. Every nonogram must be checked and approved by "Solver Matsumoto" for a unique solution and solvability.

Top navigation[]

At the top of the screen there is a black bar with useful buttons. At the top left there is a back button; other buttons are explained below. Buttons New, Edit/Play, View, Import and extend can also be accessed without extending the top navigation.

Button Name Function
Make nonogram button New Opens a window that allows to input basic parameters of the nonogram the player wants to create (see section below).
My Nonograms - Edit Edit Allows editing nonograms when in Edit mode. When tapped on the image, opens a window of the image of the nonogram in larger format. When tapped on the 3 vertical dots, opens nonogram options (see Publishing: Picture 1). When tapped on other sections of the nonogram, allows to solve the nonogram.
My Nonograms - Play Play Allows solving nonograms when in Play mode. The New button (for making nonograms) disappears in this mode. The list of nonograms is now in the view set by the player in List view.
Search filter - Help icon Help Opens help window (see this image).
View icon View Opens List view settings.
Folder icon button Import Opens phone's folders, which allows to import nonograms that have the ".ujc" extension.
Settings icon (black background) Settings Opens Settings.
My Nonograms - extend button Extend Extends the top navigation.

Starting[]

To start making a nonogram press the Make nonogram button (plus button). Then this window will appear:

Nonogram basic parameters

Basic parameters for making a nonogram.

Button Function
Puzzle name Name of the puzzle in the language of phone's system (it can also be in another language) - [sl] in this case. In square brackets is the language code of the phone's system. In order to make a Series, the name must be chosen carefully.
Google translate button Opens Google translate with the puzzle name translated to English.
Puzzle name in English Name of the puzzle (in English).
Translate button Transliterates the text in "Puzzle name (optional)" field into English (text will appear in "Puzzle name in English" field). Literally converts each letter to English.
Two-line English name (Off by default.) Removes translate and transliterate buttons. Removes the "Puzzle name (optional)" field and replaces it with "Puzzle name in English" field. Adds "Secondary name (optional)" field where "Puzzle name in English" field was previously.
Nonogram size These two fields represent the size of the nonogram. First field is the width, second the height. The second field (height) changes automatically to the same number as the first field (width) as long as the player doesn't change the second field (height).
Background image button This button allows the player to import an image as a nonogram. The image must be .png, .bmp or .gif format, maximum size 80 x 80 pixels and have maximum 12 colors. (The player can also import an image later.)

In case importing images gives an error message ("Access denied"), try selecting an image from a different app. Instead of Gallery, open images with Google Photos. Or try resetting Gallery defaults (see Keep in mind section).

Choose bw or c Choose between making a Black-and-white or Colored nonogram.

Making[]

Nonogram Test 1

Coloring - making a nonogram.

Basic buttons

These buttons function the same as when solving a nonogram.

Zen menu[]

This Zen menu is similar to the Zen menu when solving nonograms (see Zen menu in User interface).

Nonogram Test options (circle)

Zen menu - circle button.

Button Function
Lock Current State button Locks all the colored cells, so they can't be colored over unless they are unlocked first. Useful when the player want to color a certain part of the nonogram, but not other parts accidentally.
Unlock All button Unlocks all the colored cells, so you can color them over again.
Clear Unlocked button Clears the cells which are unlocked. You can think of it as pressing the back button multiple times.
View Answer button View answer button. VIP only. (This button makes no sense to me, because you can already see the answer.)
Invert button Changes all the black cells to empty cells and all the empty cells to black ones. If it's a colored nonogram, it changes the selected color (if you have the color red selected: changes red cells to empty cells and empty cells to red cells, every other colored cell stays the same).
Background image button and put back background image button Pressing this button allows you to set a picture of your choosing in the background of your nonogram. This can help you color you nonogram. Pressing the refresh button on the right puts the picture you have previously put in the background. If you already have a picture in the background, the refresh button is replaced with a red cross button. The red cross removes the background image.
Customize Toolbar button This feature allows you to rearrange all the buttons in the toolbar.
Clear button This button clears all the cells of your nonogram as it was before you have started to color your nonogram.

Options menu[]

This menu provides more options for nonogram making.

Nonogram Test 3 dots options

Options - "3 dots" button.

Button Function
Stylus button Enables cursor. Allows you to make more precise moves.
Mini toolbar button Opens a mini toolbar with two buttons (color cell and empty cell) which can be moved.
Checklist button Opens the starting menu which has the same option (puzzle name, translate, size, etc.), but with one difference: the add background is replaced with the crop button which when pressed crops the nonogram to a size of colored cells. (If you've selected a 15x15 size, but colored only a 6x7 area, this button crops the 15x15 area to a 6x7 area which you colored.)
Solver Matsumoto button Solver Matsumoto tries to solves the puzzle and checks if it has a unique solution and gives it a symbol (blue "N", yellow dot, triangle split in half, etc.). If puzzle has multiple solutions, this symbol My nonogram - double exclamation point will appear.
Save button Tries to solve the puzzle and saves it. If it can't solve it after a couple of seconds, you can press Cancel and it will stop solving and just save it.
Palette button Allows you to customize colors for number bars, background, number font and more (see Palette).
Settings button Opens Settings.

Publishing[]

When Solver Matsumoto solves the puzzle and gives it a symbol, you can publish it. You save your puzzle by clicking the diskette button. Then you press the back button or the 3 dot button and then an arrow in your top left corner of the screen. When in My Nonograms tab press on the 3 dot button on the right side of the nonogram you want to publish and press Publish (picture 1). Then you will be asked to sort the puzzle into 1 or 2 of the 49 categories (picture 2). If you choose to not sort it, it will go into the Unsorted category and will be later manually sorted by ucdevs. It will then ask you to agree to the terms of publication (to sum them up: you must be the author and it has to not offend anyone - picture 3). After agreeing you will be prompted with a message that the puzzle was uploaded successfully (picture 4).

After publishing you should find your nonogram in Sent by Users > Not Yet Approved. The approval process takes at least 2 days and 5 user ratings to be approved. After it gets approved, it will be moved to the chosen category/categories. In case it doesn't get approved, a message in Recent comments will pop up from "system" with an explanation why the puzzle didn't get approved.

Publishing limitations[]

The player can publish a maximum of 2 puzzles per 12 hours. That limit can be extended to 10 puzzles per 12 hours, if the published puzzles get a good rating (unknown what that limit might be). In case published puzzles receive a very low rating, the limit can drop down to 1 puzzle per 12 hours. New puzzles can't be published, if there are more than 20 puzzles in the "Not Yet Approved" folder (they either have to be approved or deleted). Once published, the puzzle cannot be edited or renamed (at least not on the server). The puzzle can still be renamed by suggesting a new title in the comments of the desired puzzle (see Renaming nonograms). An edited puzzle cannot be re-published, but a new puzzle has to be made (see "Copying" and "republishing" nonograms).

Keep in mind[]

When making/publishing nonograms keep in mind:

  • Read the Terms of publication carefully.
  • When making a series, the nonograms have to have a similar name and be the either all black-and-white or colored. For more information see Series.
  • Selecting 2 categories for a nonogram (if they both make sense) could increase its visibility and use.
  • It's better to not publish colored versions of black-and-white nonograms. Sometimes they can be accepted, though.

How to reset Gallery defaults (this may be different for different version of Android and iOS):

"Copying" and "republishing" nonograms[]

In case the player wants to correct something on a published nonogram (e.g. to make it easier to solve) they can't just correct the version in "My Nonograms" and republish it. "Republishing" process:

  1. Delete the old nonogram - Request from UCdevs to delete the nonogram by writing a comment under the nonogram.
  2. "Copy" the old nonogram - Because the nonogram can't be directly republished, it has to be either created from scratch or copied via the method below.
    1. Go to ujc-to-png.vercel.app and convert the nonogram to a picture.
    2. When creating a new nonogram, import this picture via the picture button (see My Nonograms > Starting).
  3. Publish the new nonogram - Publish the "new" nonogram with the changes made.

Important note: Nonograms that have already been approved, will not be deleted, because it may affect players experience, and also causes author rating penalty.
