Pier is a building in Territory. To build Pier you are required to be level 22 in the Guild and have constructed Warehouse level 1. By building it, you unlock the ability to build the Ship. The ship plows the sea in search of various resources. Max level of Pier is 4.
Note: You have to build the Pier to level 2 to be able to make Ship expeditions.
*Times are in (hours : minutes : seconds)
Ship
Once the ship is built it can be sent out on an expedition with choices of "Trading", "Exploring", "Fishing", "Prospecting" or "Patrolling", each with their own separate rewards and with their own separate expenses. Expedition types must first be unlocked at a cost. When the ship returns from an expedition it brings the rewards. Completed expeditions provide ship experience (not Guild experience) which goes towards levelling up each of the expedition types. The max level of expedition type is 10.

Expedition
If a ship expedition is successful you will be given the item promised in the icon (e.g. Coins for "Trading"). In addition, there is also a chance for discovering a random high value item (e.g. Spices, Pearl, Salmon, etc.) thanks to a random event. If an expedition is unsuccessful you will receive the message: "Due to insufficient skill, our ship ran aground". You will be given a lower value item (such as Wood or a weapon) as a compensation.
At Ship level 10, chances to get resources in "Trading", "Prospecting" and "Patrolling" are 100%. "Fishing" and "Exploring" always have a 'natural' chance to fail. Every 6 hour segment of an expedition has a chance to reward you with resources (12h = 2 segments, 24h = 4 segments). If all segments fail (i.e. if the Ship is empty), there's a compensation.

*From level 5 of Trading, you have a chance of getting 8 Coins instead of 4 for each expedition. From level 7, you have a chance of getting 10 Coins.
Both successful and unsuccessful expeditions will yield experience points that go towards upgrading the particular expedition skill you selected, but the amount you receive from a successful expedition will be greater than the amount received from an unsuccessful one. Failed segments give only 75% of Ship experience. Random event give extra 25% of ship experience (25% of base 6 hours sailing).
[Deduced information below, could be incorrect]
To be clearer, we can speak in numbers rather than percentages, even if these numbers are not shown anywhere:
A failed segment gives 75 experience. A successful segment gives 100 experience. A random event gives extra 25 experience.
A 6-hours expedition can give:
- 75 experience (failed segment without random event),
- 100 experience (failed segment with random event),
- 100 experience (successful segment without random event),
- 125 experience (successful segment with random event).
A 12-hours expedition can give:
- 150 experience (2 failed segments without random event),
- 175 experience (2 failed segments with random event),
- 175 experience (1 failed segment and 1 successful segment without random event),
- 200 experience (1 failed segment and 1 successful segment with random event),
- 200 experience (2 successful segments without random event),
- 225 experience (2 successful segments with random event).
A 24-hours expedition can give:
- 300 experience (4 failed segments without random event),
- 325 experience (4 failed segments with random event),
- 325 experience (3 failed segments and 1 successful segment without random event),
- 350 experience (3 failed segments and 1 successful segment with random event),
- 350 experience (2 failed segments and 2 successful segments without random event),
- 375 experience (2 failed segments and 2 successful segments with random event),
- 375 experience (1 failed segment and 3 successful segments without random event),
- 400 experience (1 failed segment and 3 successful segments with random event),
- 400 experience (4 successful segments without random event),
- 425 experience (4 successful segments with random event).

Random events
Random events can happen during a ship expedition. Random events give Pearl, Spices, Anchor, Message in a bottle (Treasure map fragments lvl.4), and Salmon. Before the update 14.12., you could also get Tuna, Bomb and Katana. Chances don't depend on expedition types. Only artifacts can increase them. Only 1 random event is possible for a 24-hours expedition. For 12 hours, chances are divided by 2; for 6 hours by 4. With all related level 4 artifacts unlocked, chance to get a random event in a 24-hours expedition is 100%. Without any related artifact, chance to get a random event in a 6-hours expedition is 15% (information deduced, could be incorrect).
With all related artifacts, chances of finding a specific item in a 24-hours expedition are :
- Spices : 25%
- Pearl : 25%
- Message in a bottle (Treasure map fragment lvl. 4) : 25%
- Anchor : 12,5%
- Salmon : 12,5%
