Ship expedition types

Once the Ship is built it can be sent out on an expedition with choices of Trading, Exploring, Fishing, Prospecting or Patrolling, each with their own separate rewards and expenses. Expedition types must first be unlocked at a cost. When the ship returns from an expedition the ship docks at the Pier and an Anchor can be seen over the ship. The loot must be then collected before the ship can be send on the next expedition. Completed expeditions provide ship experience (not character experience) which goes towards levelling up each of the expedition types. The maximum level of expedition type is 10.

Expeditions

Each level of the Ship unlocks an expedition duration. There are 3 of them: 6 hours, 12 hours and 24 hours. Boatswain skill allows you to reduce the duration of the ship expeditions.

If a ship expedition is successful you will be given the item promised for this type of expedition (e.g. Coins for Trading). Every 6 hour segment of an expedition has a chance to reward you with one item (12h = 2 segments, 24h = 4 segments). If a segment fails, you won't get any item. If all segments of the expedition fail, the expedition is considered unsuccessful. After an unsuccessful expedition you receive a warning message telling you that the expedition failed. You will be given one lower value item (such as Wood or a weapon) as a compensation. If some segments of the expedition are successful and some fail, you will only get one item for each successful segment. Thus, for a 24-hours expedition, you can get 1 compensation item OR 1 to 4 x promised items, based on the number of successful segments (from 1 to 4).

In addition, there is also a chance for discovering a random high value item (e.g. Spices, Pearl, Salmon, etc.) thanks to a random event. Random events can happen during a successful or unsuccessful expedition. See below for more information about random events.

When you reach level 10 with a certain ship type expedition the chances to get resources in Trading, Prospecting and Patrolling are 100%. Fishing and Exploring always have a natural chance to fail.

***From lvl. 5 of Fishing, you have a chance of getting 1 Tuna instead of 1 Salmon.

****From lvl. 4 of Prospecting, you have a chance of getting 6 Iron sand instead of 4-5. From lvl. 5 of Prospecting, you have a chance of getting 7 Iron sand.

*****From lvl. 4 of Patrolling, you have a chance of getting 400 experience points.

Both successful and unsuccessful expeditions will yield experience points that go towards upgrading the particular expedition type you selected, but the amount of experience you receive from a successful expedition will be greater than the amount received from an unsuccessful one. Failed segments give only 75% of ship experience. Random event give extra 25% of ship experience (25% of base 6 hours sailing).

Spicy Odyssey

You unlock Spicy Odyssey by building Ship lvl. 4. Spicy Odyssey is a ship expedition type, but unlike others, it cannot be levelled up. After the first 24 hours, when the expedition starts, a yellow warning sign will be shown on your Pier (Picture 1), which will require you to solve a 10x10 nonogram (Picture 2). After you solve a 10x10 nonogram the Ship will continue (come back) its journey for the next 24 hours, so the expedition lasts for 48 hours in total. This time can be reduced with Boatswain skill.
Being just another expedition type, Spicy Odyssey is also a subject to a random event granting you additional reward - apart from guaranteed 1 x Spices.
When Spicy Odyssey expedition is completed for the first time, the Spicy Odyssey quest is concluded and you receive corresponding rewards.

Levelling ship expedition types

[Deduced information below, could be incorrect]

To be clearer, we can speak in numbers rather than percentages, even if these numbers are not shown anywhere:

A successful segment gives 100 experience points. A failed segment gives 75 experience points. A random event gives extra 25 experience points.

A 6-hours expedition can give:

  • 75 experience points (failed segment without random event),
  • 100 experience points (failed segment with random event),
  • 100 experience points (successful segment without random event),
  • 125 experience points (successful segment with random event).

A 12-hours expedition can give:

  • 150 experience points (2 failed segments without random event),
  • 175 experience points (2 failed segments with random event),
  • 175 experience points (1 failed segment and 1 successful segment without random event),
  • 200 experience points (1 failed segment and 1 successful segment with random event),
  • 200 experience points (2 successful segments without random event),
  • 225 experience points (2 successful segments with random event).

A 24-hours expedition can give:

  • 300 experience points (4 failed segments without random event),
  • 325 experience points (4 failed segments with random event),
  • 325 experience points (3 failed segments and 1 successful segment without random event),
  • 350 experience points (3 failed segments and 1 successful segment with random event),
  • 350 experience points (2 failed segments and 2 successful segments without random event),
  • 375 experience points (2 failed segments and 2 successful segments with random event),
  • 375 experience points (1 failed segment and 3 successful segments without random event),
  • 400 experience points (1 failed segment and 3 successful segments with random event),
  • 400 experience points (4 successful segments without random event),
  • 425 experience points (4 successful segments with random event).

*Except for Fishing and Exploring which always have a natural chance to fail.

The table above was calculated by measuring how many ship expeditions were completed for each level and if they were successful, unsuccessful or had a random event, based on the idea that a successful expedition is worth 100, unsuccessful 75 and random event + 25 experience points. To help confirm/correct/fill the table see this excel document. Only 6 hour expeditions are reliable for measuring experience, because it can be easily read how many segments were successful/unsuccessful (because it is only one segment).

Random events

Random events can happen during a ship expedition. Random events give Pearl, Spices, Anchor, Message in a bottle (Treasure map fragment lvl. 4), and Salmon. Before patch 14.12., you could also get Tuna, Bomb and Katana. Chances don't depend on expedition types. Only artifacts can increase them. Only 1 random event is possible per 1 ship expedition. For 12 hours, chances are divided by 2; for 6 hours by 4. With all related lvl. 4 artifacts unlocked, chance to get a random event in a 24-hours expedition is 100%. Without any related artifacts, chances to get a random event in a 6-hours expedition is 15% (information deduced, could be incorrect).

With all related artifacts, chances of finding a specific item in a 24-hours expedition are :

  • Spices: 25%
  • Pearl: 25%
  • Message in a bottle (Treasure map fragment lvl. 4): 25%
  • Anchor: 12,5%
  • Salmon: 12,5%

Note: Pirate hat is always obtained first, but Ship in a bottle and Black pearl can be obtained second or third. The table shows the chances for lvl. 4 artifacts obtain in this order: 1)Pirate hat, 2) Ship in a bottle and 3)Black pearl.

Descriptions for items which can be discovered during ship expeditions and where they're used:

  • Anchor - cannot be sold. It is a weapon that is similar to the Mortar and Battering Ram, but instead reveals 40% of a puzzle. 1 is required for construction of Ship lvl. 3. Can be thrown into Cauldron.
  • Pearl - can be sold (10 Coins). 5 are required for construction of Pagoda lvl. 7. 15 are required for purchase of Smuggler's map Chapter V (see Quests). 3 are required for unlocking Fishing (ship expedition type).
  • Salmon - can be sold (3 Coins). 20 are required for Boatswain skill lvl. 1. Can be used for Cooking in Food Stall.
  • Spices - can be sold (8 Coins). 1 is required for construction of Ship lvl. 3. 5 are required for Food Stall lvl. 1. 10 are required for purchase of Smuggler's map Chapter IV. 3 are required for Food Stall lvl. 2. Can be used for Cooking in Food Stall, which is required to unlock lvl. 4 expeditions and craft Treasure maps lvl. 4.
  • Tuna - can be sold (10 Coins). 10 are required for Boatswain skill lvl. 2. Can be used for Cooking in Food Stall.

The table with ship expedition stats was deleted due to people putting their stats in with different lvl. 4 artifacts (Pirate's hat) and not taking into account different patches. I have made a spreadsheet of ship expeditions and everyone is welcome to join. You can email me at urbanpy@gmail.com and I will send you an invite.
